Flower Michelin was approached by a music composer and his family to remodel their London townhouse. The brief was two-fold, to refurbish the house into a home for their young family, and to incorporate a music studio for composing and recording. The challenge presented was to create spaces that had a level of formality for entertaining industry clients and guests, while at the same time retaining a level of domesticity of the ‘everyday’ function of a young family home.
The house is terraced, set over four floors and in a conservation area. The ground floor side extension was replaced, and rear facade remodelled, and a second storey was added to the rear outrigger. A basement extending under the full footprint of the house and fifty percent of the front and rear gardens was excavated for the studio, with the key entertaining and living spaces to the ground floor with four bedrooms, bathrooms and study to the upper floors.
